Why are black people disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic?
Vitamin D helps protect against colds and flu, so might defend against COVID-19 too. Vitamin D is converted to its active form by the action of sunlight on the skin, which is impeded by having dark skin. So dark skinned people are therefore more affected by coronavirus.
The virus spreads more in dense urban areas, which are disproportionately populated by BAME people.
